... back home it was the 'interstate,' but here in the West it's the 'freeway.' I forget if I've mentioned that. Makes no sense to me, because in Louisiana it doesn't cost anything to use them, and I know you can get into another state on them here. Boggles what little mind I have left.

I always took the term freeway to mean a road that does not have obstructions in your way (free of obstructions in your way ==

with obstruction meaning, pedestrians, lights, stop signs, animals, etc.
The interstate is simply a subset of freeways - ie) freeways that are part of the Interstate system... but I'm Canadian, and we have few freeways, and no National freeway system as our national highway has single lane and stop lights through many towns and big cities.
All us taxpayers are glad it doesn't cost YOU anything to use the interstate!!! I think there's a fine line between what's an interstate and what's a freeway, but why bog ourselves down in facts--especially since you have to decide between buying gas or groceries these days? L.M.
